Our favorite “Celebrity Apprentice” joke — oh, and former governor of Illinois — Rod Blagojevich has been found guilty on 17 counts, including trying to sell President Barack Obama’s Senate seat after Obama was elected.
Blagojevich was recorded on a phone call as saying that having the power to choose Obama’s successor was “f***ing golden” and that he wouldn’t let it go for “f***ing nothing.” He now faces up to 300 years in prison.
He is the second straight Illinois governor convicted of corruption in office. George Ryan, who preceded Blagojevich in the position, is currently serving six and a half years in a federal prison.
The judge has ruled that Blagojevich is barred from traveling outside the Chicago area without permission before his August 1 sentencing.
After his arrest, Blagojevich attempted to improve public opinion of him through bizarre means — reality television. Blago’s wife, Patty, appeared on a season of “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here,” where she ate a tarantula, and Blagojevich himself was eliminated early on in a season of “Celebrity Apprentice.”
