roger ebert dies age 70 Roger Ebert funeral service set, public memorial tribute also plannedFuneral services for legendary film critic Roger Ebert will take place next week.

A service at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago Monday (April 8) will be open to the public, the Chicago Tribune reports, although seating will be first come, first served. Plans for a memorial tribute are also underway, although other than a date — Thursday, April 11 — details aren’t nailed down yet.

The 70-year-old Ebert died Thursday after fighting thyroid cancer for several years. Earlier in the week he told his readers that his cancer had returned.

Ebert won a Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for his film criticism for the Chicago Sun-Times and co-hosted the long-running “At the Movies” with fellow critic Gene Siskel and later Richard Roeper. Tributes from fellow critics and the people he wrote about have poured in over the past couple of days.
