rookie blue boston med 'Rookie Blue,' 'Boston Med': Compelling summer shows from ABCFollowing the hilarious shenanigans of “Wipeout,” did you stick around for the premieres of “Rookie Blue” and “Boston Med” on ABC Thursday, June 24?

We have to say — we were pleasantly surprised by both. “Rookie Blue” sucked us in right from the get-go and “Boston Med” kept us tuned in. Missy Peregrym is fun to watch as the nervous lead rookie in “Blue.” Who do you think the romance will be with, Detective Cutie or Undercover Cutie?

We were also fans of her seasoned veteran partner, her supporting cast of rookies and the appearance at the end of her retired cop father. We hope to see more of him in the coming weeks.

“Boston Med” shifted gears a bit for a reality show version of “Grey’s Anatomy” but wasn’t any less compelling. We predict Dr. Pina Patel to be the break-out star of the show — she brought charm, levity and a pretty face to the otherwise serious show. We love her tale of her parents — “For the love of God, just get married.”

But the drama was intense as well, particularly the police officer shot in the face and hands while interrupting a robbery. “Grey’s” may be more sensational, but the fact that these cases are real make for incredibly engaging television. His jaw was shattered and watching the doctor tell the officer’s wife and parents was very emotional.

If you didn’t tune in, do you want to now? And if you did, will you keep watching?

“Rookie Blue” and “Boston Med” air on Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on ABC.
