“Scandal” star Jeff Perry stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday (April 3), where he offered up a couple anecdotes about being on the show, plus a sneak peek of next week’s episode, titled “Flesh and Blood.”

“It’s a blast,” says Perry, of being on a show as crazy as “Scandal.” “How did [creator Shonda Rhimes] invent this single — it’s an absolutely singular genre. OK, political thriller’s gonna meet Greek drama gonna meet Shakespeare gonna meet Grand Guignol … gonna meet telenovela. And she makes it work!”

Kimmel also cracks that Perry’s wife is the casting director, so when she was casting for gay Cyrus Beene, she thought, “My husband’s perfect for that!,” but Perry dishes that nobody knew Cyrus was gay until the Season 1 episode where James was revealed as his partner.

When that reveal came at the table-read, Perry says everyone was surprised, and then he asked Rhimes if he should do anything differently and she said no, which interestingly speaks to a larger idea of “acting gay” versus just acting. But we digress.

Below, Perry offers a sneak peek clip of the penultimate Season 3 episode, airing Thursday, April 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
