According to Fox News, the singer was the starting pitcher for the Garner High School varsity team when he threw a pitch that came back and hit him in the throat. Don’t worry — he’s alright. Although he managed to recover and snag the ball and throw out the batter, his effort wasn’t enough. When McCreery left the game after more than four innings his team was up 2-1, but their opponents managed to pull through for a 3-2 win.
“He has been throwing very well and will continue to help our rotation,” Garner coach Derik Goffena tells local paper the Raleigh News & Observer. “He took a grounder to the chin, but
is okay. Scared him more than anything.”
