Donaldfaison_scrubs_s_240A couple things are apparent in watching the teaser clips for the Scrubs musical episode next month. One, Donald Faison and Zach Braff probably shouldn’t quit their day jobs to become singers. And two, that really isn’t a problem.

The show employed Avenue Q composers Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx to write the songs for the musical, and the two off-center worlds appear to mesh pretty nicely. The video for "Guy Love" has been on YouTube for a while now; it’s a tender ballad in which the closest man-couple since Joey and Chandler express their affection for one another, with lines like "It’s guy love, that’s all it is/guy love, he’s mine, I’m his/There’s nothing gay about it in our eyes."

NBC has also posted a second song, "Everything Comes Down to Poo," on its web site and was scheduled to put the clip on its YouTube channel as well (though it’s not there as of mid-morning). The jaunty little ditty explains that "If you want to know what’s wrong/don’t sit and act so cool/Just be a man, and eat some bran/and drop the kids off at the pool."

The all-singing, all-dancing episode kicks off when a woman (original Avenue Q cast member Stephanie D’Abruzzo) checks into Sacred Heart complaining that she hears music all the time. J.D. and Turk enter full Broadway mode, and though neither has a stage-ready voice (think most of the Buffy folks when they did their musical), they’re clearly having such a good time that it scarcely matters.

Of any show currently on TV, Scrubs seems the most fitting place for a musical. And based on the two clips, I’m on board. How ’bout you?
