Now he says he’s really, really sorry.
"I would like to sincerely apologize for my off-color remarks to the press yesterday from Calgary, read his mea culpa. "I should not have made those comments and I recognize that they were inappropriate. It was a bad attempt to build excitement for the game, but I am now acutely aware of how hurtful my actions were. I caused unnecessary embarrassment to my peers as well as people I have been close with in the past.
"I apologize for offending the great fans of the NHL, the commissioner, my teammates, my coaching staff and the Dallas Stars management and ownership. As many of you know, I like to mix it up on and off the ice from time to time, but understand that this time I took it too far."
How convenient. Just in time for the Dallas Stars player’s hearing before the hockey league commissioner today about his suspension for making "inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game."
Avery made the statement Wednesday morning while bragging to reporters.
See a video of his sexual slur comment, and other players reactions to it, after the jump. But it is offensive, so be warned.
Although he didn’t mention her name, his former girlfriend, Cuthbert, 26, one of Maxim’s 100 Sexiest Women, now dates Calgary’s Dion Phaneuf and was previously linked to a Montreal Canadians player.
Avery has also dated "Stacey’s Mom" star Rachel Hunter, who now dates Los Angeles Kings star Jarret Stoll.
Apology or not, this guy’s a creep in our books. The fact that he even thought this, much less said it, makes him a real sleaze bucket.
What do you think?
If it takes a suspension to make this clueless loser realize that he was outta line, what kind of man is he?
The good news is that now that he’s exposed his true character, his social activities may be severely curtailed.
Photos: Sean and Elisha in happier times. Rachel and Sean before that. Don’t even think about sending apology roses, dude.
