Hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean‘s decision to run for president of Haiti is causing controversy. While he claims that he wants to help people and rebuild his native country, his motives are being questioned by some who are deeply involved in the quake relief efforts.
One vocal critic is Oscar-winning actor and outspoken Haitian advocate Sean Penn, who voiced his concerns over Jean’s financial donors on CNN Thursday (Aug 5).

Penn — who has been on the ground in Haiti for months — mentions Jean’s absence from Haiti as well his inappropriately large “entourage” when he did pop in for a visit. It will be interesting to see what other celebrities (George Clooney, Bono, etc) who have been involved in getting aid to the quake-ravaged country will have to say about Wyclef’s presidential run.
