seattle cops doritos hempfest marijuana pot legal gi Seattle cops to hand out Doritos to pot lovers at Hempfest

Marijuana is now legal in Washington state, so Seattle cops won’t be issuing tickets during the 2013 Hempfest. Instead, the police will join in the fun and hand out Doritos.
Munchies will not be a problem at this annual event

This summer marks the 22nd annual Hempfest “protestival” in Seattle, but it’s the first since Washington voters legalized marijuana in Nov. 2012. While the police have typically been tolerant of pot smokers during the event in the past, this is the first year that even ceremonial tickets (a common practice in Seattle at counter-cultural events) can be ignored.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Sgt. Sean Whitcomb, Seattle police spokesman told the Associated Press. “It’s meant to be ironic. The idea of police passing out Doritos at a festival that celebrates pot, we’re sure, is going to generate some buzz.”

Because the law would still like legality to be followed, labels attached to the Doritos bags will direct munchies-cravers to the government’s marijuana Q&A website.

About 85,000 people are expected at the free event, which will feature over 100 musical acts, informational speakers and 400 vendors.
