steven moffat gi 'Sherlock' creator Steven Moffat on 'Elementary': It's not our showDon’t count Steven Moffat among the early adopters of CBS’ planned Sherlock Holmes-inspired pilot “Elementary.”

The creator of the BBC’s “Sherlock” — a wildly popular adaptation that has been a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s second season is set to run in the U.S. in May — answered questions about the new CBS show on Wednesday (March 21) when he greeted reporters to talk about another project, “Doctor Who.”

The CBS version stars Jonny Lee Miller in what is basically a carbon copy of “Sherlock” transplanted from London to New York.

“First of all, that’s not a re-version of our show, they just went ahead and made one anyway,” says Moffat. “They approached us to remake our show and we said no and they just did it anyway. So I’ll just leave you to speculate on what I think about that.”

As for CBS’ casting of Lucy Liu as Doctor Watson, Moffat was equally unenthused.

“Lucy Liu’s a great actress, but no, I’m, not going to make a comment about that.”

“We have to assume that their modernized Sherlock Holmes doesn’t resemble ours in any way, as that would be extremely worrying,” Moffat continues. “We are very proud of our show and like any proud parent, will protect the interest and well being of our offspring.”
