Moffat made the promise to fans at a screening of the final Season 3 episode, “His Last Vow,” on Wednesday (Jan. 8). “We have got plans. They tend to be what exciting twists and turns we can have. Not blowing up the world,” Moffat explains when asked about what was coming next for “Sherlock,” as reported by The Guardian.
As for when a fourth season might show up, the “Sherlock” producers were a little more reluctant. As the Radio Times reports from the screening: “We’ll get them made as quickly as we can,” Moffat promises. “Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman] are making some movies. If you say, ‘Who cares about movies?’ I agree with you. But they are doing them, so we’ve got to schedule around that.
Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait as long as they did between Seasons 2 and 3 of “Sherlock” — almost two years have elapsed between Sherlock Holmes’ “death” in the Season 2 finale and the detective’s return in Season 3.
“Sherlock” makes its U.S. debut Sunday, Jan. 19 on PBS.
