Chris Brown's inclusion as a nominee for Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards is is no longer an issue for enraged parents.

The singer, who had no plans to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles on March 28 also withdrew his name from the ballot for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song for "Kiss Kiss" on Wednesday morning (March 11), reports Momlogic.

"Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song," say his reps in a statement. "Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so."

Brown's girlfriend Rihanna, whom he is accused of beating, is also nominated for favorite female singer and her song "Don't Stop the Music."

A petition posted online has been protesting both of the singers' names on the ballots, claiming that Brown, 19, having been charged with felonies, and Rihanna, 21, deciding to stay with Brown, are bad role models for the kids targeted by the show.

"To say that either of these people setting a suitable example to be held up as 'winners' is preposterous," concludes the petition made to MTV Networks & Viacom International, which owns Nickelodeon. As of Wednesday morning, the petition has more than 11,000 signatures.

Earlier, a spokesperson for Nickelodeon had said that Brown and Rihanna's names would remain on the ballots for the kids to decide. It's not clear if Brown's withdrawal of his name will affect the official voting procedure.

Did Chris Brown make the right decision? Do you think the kids should be able to make their choice? Should Nickelodeon have acted first, striking the names from the ballots? Should an artist's work be judged separately from his/her personal life?
