“Sons of Anarchy” keeps getting bigger in the ratings. The fifth-season premiere Tuesday night (Sept. 11) scored the biggest same-day audience in the show’s history.
The FX drama brought in 5.37 million viewers for its 90-minute season premiere, breaking the mark of 4.94 million viewers set by last season’s premiere. Tuesday’s episode drew 3.5 million people in the 18-49 demographic, also a series high.
A pair of repeat airings pushed the total number of people who watched the premiere to 7.5 million, with about 4.9 million of them in the 18-49 demo. It was the most-watched show on cable Tuesday night and led all of television in its concentration of male viewers.
Once DVR use is figured in a couple weeks from now, FX projects the “Sons” Season 5 premiere to be the most-watched single telecast in the channel’s history.
