portal2 b Sony's PlayStation network down, possibly for daysNow may be the moment to ask the gamer in your life to, you know, get a little fresh air.

Just as the much-anticipated “Portal 2” hit gamers, the PlayStation Network pooped out on its more than 70 million users. The reason for the outage isn’t clear, but a message was posted on the official PlayStation blog saying that it could be a matter of days before the problem is resolved:

“While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we’re able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we’ll update you again as soon as we can.”

Sony’s PlayStation network experienced a similar — but shorter — outage in early April. The “hacktavist” group Anonymous claimed responsibility for that outage, although Sony’s official line was that “sporadic maintenance” caused the interruptions.

According to Engadget, there’s a possibility that this outage, too, is the result of “the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party.” Or, could this merely be step one in Skynet’s systemized campaign to disrupt human existence?
