For the first time ever, in 17 seasons of last-minute edits and production, “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker missed the deadline to finish an episode of the long-running series.

What prompted the reliable creators to fail to finish episode 1704, “Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers?” A power outage.

“On Tuesday (Oct. 15) night, South Park Studios lost power,” Comedy Central announced in a statement on Wednesday (Oct. 16). “From animation to rendering to editing and sound, all of our computers were down for hours and we were unable to finish episode 1704 ‘Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers’ in time for air tonight.”

After spending years producing “South Park” episodes in six days — which allows the series to focus on and parody timely issues — this is the first time the show has ever missed a deadline. “It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen,” Parker says.

“Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers” will now air next Wednesday (Oct. 23). In its place on Wednesday (Oct. 16), there will be encore, live-tweeted presentation of “Scott Tenorman Must Die” at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
