southland season 4 tnt 'Southland' Season 5 is most likely happeningA fifth season of “Southland” is looking like it’s in the cards at TNT — once the cable channel and the show’s producers figure out how many episodes to produce.

Variety reports that TNT and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the series, are close to finishing negotiations for a fifth season of the show (and fourth on cable, after a brief run on NBC in 2009). They’re still discussing the length of a fifth season, however. TNT wants to make 10 episodes — as it’s done for the past two seasons — while the studio and “Southland’s” producers are hoping to extend the new season to 13 hours.

“Southland,” which stars Ben McKenzie, Michael Cudlitz, Regina King and Shawn Hatosy, has become a steady performer for TNT. The series averaged 2.9 million viewers in Season 4, about even with the previous season, but the audience got a little younger: Ratings among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 both improved a little.

A deal between TNT and Warner Bros. TV (which are both part of Time Warner Inc.) is expected by the end of the week.
