Will Ferrell showed up to the Los Angeles premiere of “The Spoils of Babylon” in style — MTV Movie Awards style, that is. The producer/star of the IFC miniseries wore the same dollar bill suit he had at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards to work the red carpet Tuesday (Jan. 7) at the Directors Guild of America Theater.
“This is something I had made,” Ferrell tells Zap2it. “I can’t even tell you [where I got it]. I wish I could. There is a tailor, his name is Cash Money and he only makes suits that are currency.”
In “The Spoils of Babylon,” Ferrell plays fictional “Spoils of Babylon” author Eric Jonrosh. The character claims “The Spoils of Babylon” is his masterpiece that is only being released now, but Ferrell says Jonrosh would not be pleased with the carpet that IFC rolled out.
“No, I think he’d be disgusted with this. I mean, here? Eric Jonrosh would want this at Mann’s Chinese. The fact that we’re at DGA would make no sense to him,” he quips.
“The Spoils of Babylon” is a standalone miniseries, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the only one IFC will make. Ferrell says now that the network has tackled the format, there’s a good chance more will come in the future as well.
“You know, this is from the minds of Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele. Why make this now? There’s no reason, which is why it’s so beautiful,” he says. “If this one works — how could it not? — they have a plan for many more. So hopefully this will be the rebirth of the miniseries.”
“The Spoils of Babylon” premieres on IFC on Jan. 9 at 10 p.m.
