General Stanley McChrystal, the top military commander in Afghanistan, apologized Tuesday (June 22) for remarks in his Rolling Stone profile, in which the general and his staff poke fun at top officials, including VP Joe Biden.

“I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened,” McChrystal said in a Pentagon statement. “Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard.”

]]>reports that he has been recalled to Washington DC to attend a military meeting in which he will presumably also be asked about this article. In the RS profile, author Michael Hastings describes McChrystal and his staff coming up with ways to diss Biden as they prepared for a Q & A in Paris.
“‘Are you asking about Vice President Biden?’ McChrystal says with a laugh. ‘Who’s that?'” “‘Biden?’ suggests a top adviser. ‘Did you say: Bite Me?'” McChrystal does not harshly criticize President Barack Obama. However, the piece notes McChrystal and Obama “failed to connect.” The article also says that McChrystal thought Obama looked “uncomfortable and intimidated” by top-ranking military men. McChrystal’s first meeting with Obama is described as a “10-minute photo op.” One of McChrystal’s aides added, “Obama clearly didn’t know anything about him, who he was. Here’s the guy who’s going to run his f—ing war, but he didn’t seem very engaged. The Boss (McChrystal) was disappointed.” What do you think will happen to McChrystal? What should happen?
