When “The View” debuted in 1998, Star Jones was one of the original hosts, alongside Meredith Vieira, Debbie Matenopoulos, Joy Behar and Barbara Walters. In June 2006, Jones unexpectedly announced on air that she would be leaving the show. Walters was particularly vocal about feeling betrayed by Jones simply announcing her departure the way she did.

Wednesday (Feb. 23), Jones returned to “The View” for the first time since she left five and a half years ago. She was there to talk about heart disease (her struggles with weight have been well-documented in the media).

What ensued was … well, it starts off nice, in the above video. But Barbara Walters wants to talk about the “truth” about the departure. Jones says, “It was ugly … it was a bad emotional time. Nasty things were being said in the media … I congratulate all of you on everything you have accomplished. I hope you congratulate me on all the things I have accomplished.”

And then Behar jumps in and wants to talk about Jones’ gastric bypass surgery and how she didn’t want to talk about it on the air, then Walters adds that they lied for her about it. Clearly, Joy and Barbara are holding on to some old crap – maybe they should’ve just moved on, let Star talk about her heart disease platform?

Now Thursday morning on “Today,” Donnie Deutsch and Dr. Nancy Sneiderman think that Barbara and Joy were “mean girls” who were “cruel” and owe Star an apology.
