Chris Pine, who played Kirk in the “Star Trek” reboot, is in talks with Paramount for an adaptation of the Jason Kersten’s “The Art of Making Money: The Story of a Master Counterfeiter.” Kersten’s 2009 non-fiction book tells the story of Art Williams, a Chicago thief who discovers he has a talent for faking money.

The story has a “Catch Me If You Can” vibe, something Pine may hope will distinguish him from his now-famous sci-fi role.

— “Toy Story 3” is stocking the toybox. “Flight of the Conchords'” Kristen Schaal, who plays overly devoted fan Mel, will join the cast in an unspecified role, according to director Lee Unkrich.

Unkrich posted a video today to Facebook in which he confirms Schaal’s addition to the cast. He also confirmed character actor Blake Clark (“50 First Dates,” “Boy Meets World”) has taken over the role of Slinkydog from the late Jim Varney. Varney died of lung cancer in 2000, a year after “Toy Story 2” was released.

“Toy Story 3” is currently in production. A new trailer was released Oct. 12.

— Fresh off her role in Joan Jett biopic “The Runaways,” Tatum O’Neal will get political for “Sweet Lorraine.” The indie pic will follow O’Neal’s character, a woman with a shady past who is thrust into the spotlight when her former mayor becomes New York City’s mayor.
