star wars episode 7 gwendoline christie lupita nyongo 'Star Wars: Episode VII' casts Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong'oForget those leaked set photos, because the biggest news to come out about “Star Wars: Episode VII” is about some new castings. The official “Star Wars” Facebook page reveals that Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on “Game of Thrones,” and Lupita Nyong’o, who won an Academy Award in 2014 for “12 Years a Slave,” have joined the cast.

There were many complaints about the lack of female characters and people of color in “Episode VII” after the initial casting announcement was made. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were the only two that met those qualifications, so the additions of Christie and Nyong’o will likely be well-received. Neither woman’s role has been revealed.
Nyong’o’s casting has been rumored for several months, so the announcement of her involvement isn’t a huge surprise. Christie, meanwhile, has been getting some great roles on the big screen. After her breakout role on “Game of Thrones,” Christie was cast as Commander Lyme in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.”
