stormin norman schwarzkopf dead gi 'Stormin' Norman' Schwarzkopf dead at 78Former U.S. General H. Norman Schwarzkopf has died in Tampa, Fla. at the age of 78, the Associated Press reports.

Gen. Schwarzkopf was responsible for commanding the international coalition forces that drove Saddam Hussein from Kuwait during the Persoan Gulf War.

Schwarzkopf, who was known as “Stormin’ Norman” because of his legendary temper, was active in battle during the Vietnam War. He was promoted to General in 1988 and put in charge of the U.S.-led coalition forces.

He co-authored the Operation Desert Storm plan, which was credited with bringing the Gulf War to an end in 1991.

The retired General wrote a book, It Doesn’t Take A Hero, which he published in 1992. He later served as a military analyst for NBC. Schwarzkopf was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he subsequently recovered from, and was active in promoting awareness of the disease.
