student wrote own obit christopher weigl Student wrote own obit weeks before death

A graduate student at Boston University wrote his own obituary weeks before he was killed in a collision between his bicycle and a truck.
The Boston Globe reports Christopher Weigl wrote his obituary at the beginning of the fall semester. It was a standard assignment for journalism students, and Weigl’s dream was to become a photojournalist.
Weigl was former eagle scout, who threw a bit of comedy into the opening of his own obit:
“Lifelong Massachusetts resident and Boston University graduate student Christopher Weigl, 22, passed away September 5 after protracted complications stemming from obituary writing.”
In the writing, which was reprinted by the Globe, Weigl describes the moment he discovered his passion for photojournalism.
An excerpt:
“It was on the little Cambodian island of Koh Rong, where he interviewed locals and uncovered a government takeover of the island, that Christopher found a story and cemented his love for photojournalism.”
One of Weigl’s BU professors calls him the ideal student. Mitchell Zuckoff describes Weigl as “smart, mature, curious, in school for all the right reasons.”
Weigl, who was reportedly 23-years-old at the time of his death, left behind a gallery of his photography work.
