Kim Spradlin became the 11th female winner of “Survivor,” but she became the first to engineer an all-female Final 5. She tells Zap2it that she was surprised by the margin of victory, but she was absolutely shocked by the Fan Favorite vote.
How proud are you of your game? An all-female Final 5, you won Fan Favorite too – is it just overwhelming?
It really is overwhelming. It’s very surreal. I’ve hardly slept, so I kind of feel like I’m in a really good dream. It’s just awesome. It was so fun to do that with the girls. We bonded so much at the beginning when things were really rough. It was a really cool experience.”
Were you surprised by the margin of victory?
“Uh, yes. Definitely. I honestly was surprised by the victory itself. I was hoping for a 5-4 win and expecting a 5-4 loss to Sabrina. I had totally prepared myself for her to beat me so I wouldn’t look like a crazy person on national television, expecting to win a million dollars [laughs].”
Were you surprised by the Fan Favorite vote?
“Shocked. Honestly. I knew I had a shot at winning the game, but I never in my wildest dreams imagined I was in the running for Fan Favorite. I was really, really surprised by that.”
When you decided to take Sabrina and Chelsea to the Top 3, did a part of you think it really didn’t matter – that you had played a good enough game you would probably win regardless of who was sitting there?
“That’s exactly what I was thinking, but I kind of meant it in a different way. I figured if the jury was mad, if those people were pissed, any one of the two people will get the votes. Even if I do take Christina, the other person will get the votes. And if they’re not mad and they’re going to respect the game and vote for the best player, then I’m going to win no matter what. So it was just a matter of whether they were mad or not. That made the difference.”
If the women had caught on to how in control you were and taken you out, which one of the final four women would have had your vote? Or maybe Tarzan, if he was sitting there?
“Chelsea, no doubt. No matter what, no matter how it had gone … It’s funny. I think America saw in Chelsea what I saw in Chelsea. I thought Chelsea was in my competition. When I sat down at the final Tribal Council, and realized Sabrina was the pulling votes – that was definitely my most ignorant moment of the game. I just adored Chelsea, so much I didn’t see how much everybody felt about Sabrina.”
Who will you/have you been keeping in touch with from the game?
“Chelsea. And honestly, Alicia and Kat and I are super tight as well. There’s not a week that goes by I don’t talk to those girls. Jay, Jonas, Troy. I honestly walked away feeling like I have some good friends. It’s very cool. Surprising.”
“Yeah! After the show was over, after final Tribal Council, people have asked me what I did with the Immunity Idol and I gave it to Troy. I think he was an even bigger fan of the show than I was. [The game] could’ve easily ended up the opposite way that it did. I sympathized for how it felt for him. But we’ve kept in touch. This weekend was good to see him, we hugged it out and I think we’ll be alright.”
Would you go back to “Survivor” if asked?
“Absolutely. Hell yes. I think that would be the hardest thing to say no to.”
Any messages to your fans?
“Gosh. Thank you! Thank you! I didn’t know you existed. It was awesome.”
