stephenking 290 Syfy adds Stephen King TV series supposedly based on 'The Colorado Kid'Novelist Stephen King is getting back into the television game, though this latest project has us scratching our heads.

Syfy has picked up 13 episodes of an original series, “Haven,” purportedly based on King’s novella “The Colorado Kid.”

The thing is, “The Colorado Kid” is about a young journalist who is told the story of a mysterious corpse, a man from Colorado who shows up in Maine in record time.

Here’s how the Syfy release describes “Haven”:

“Deep in the heart of Maine, Haven is a town where people with supernatural abilities have migrated for generations because it mutes their powers, allowing them to lead normal lives. At least, until recently. When hot-shot FBI agent Audrey Parker is called to Haven to solve the murder of a local ex-con, she catches the killer but uncovers a much deeper mystery about this town. Each week, as the town-peoples’ dormant powers begin to express themselves, Audrey will try to keep these supernatural forces at bay while unraveling the many mysteries of Haven – including one surrounding her own surprising past in this extraordinary place.”

We’re getting a very “Freddy’s Nightmares” vibe here, wherein the source material served as a jumping-off point for a larger anthology. Our guess? The Colorado Kid will be the central murder victim who brings Parker to the town full o’ superpeople. No idea how the Maine setting will reconcile with the book character’s more West-based roots.

The series is set to begin production in early 2010 and air later that year.
