tagg romney mitt romney campaign trail gi Tagg Romney: 'Mitt Romney didn't want to be president' That explains a lotThe question of why Mitt Romney‘s candidacy for president failed is still being batted about, and it seems Mitt’s son, Tagg Romney has provided a vital clue.

The Boston Globe has an in-depth look at Mitt’s campaign strategy, including a quote from Tagg that has people talking.

“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life. He had no desire to … run,” says tag of his father. Mitt’s wife, Ann Romney, is said to have teamed up with Tagg to convince Mitt to run.

“If he could have found someone else to take his place,” Tagg explains. “He would have been ecstatic to step aside. He is a very private person who loves his family deeply and wants to be with them, but he has deep faith in God and he loves his country, but he doesn’t love the attention.”

Tagg created a list of 12 people whose lives were greatly impacted by Mitt’s involvement, and wanted to create a series of advertisements vignetting their stories. But, ultimately, the personal accounts were ignored by the elder Romney’s strategists. The debate surrounding how much of Mitt’s personal side to spotlight was a hot one inside the Romney camp, and could be blamed for Mitt’s failure to create a ground swell of grass-roots support the way Barack Obama‘s campaign did.

Conservative radio and television host, Laura Ingraham spoke for many frustrated with the GOP when the Tagg story hit Twitter. Regarding the headline, “Romney didn’t want to run for president, son says,” Ingraham tweeted, “THAT’S GOOD, BECAUSE HE DIDN’T REALLY RUN, HE WOGGED (cross bt walk &jog).”
