“Person of Interest” had its first episode without Taraji P. Henson last night. After Joss Carter died in “The Crossing,” the characters on the CBS had to say goodbye in “The Devil’s Share.”

There will be no twist to bring Carter back now that she’s gone, Henson confirms, though “Person of Interest” showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman did tease that Henson might reappear in flashbacks. In the aftermath of “The Devil’s Share,” Henson went on “CBS This Morning” to discuss saying goodbye to Carter.

“I knew [about the death] when I signed on to do the project,” she tells “CBS This Morning,” admitting she couldn’t even tell her costars she knew she was going to get killed off. “Oh, that was so hard, because I don’t lie well. I couldn’t even tell my castmates. I’m talking to them everyday, and I felt like such a little liar.”

Since Henson has had so long to prepare for her goodbye to Carter, she wasn’t especially choked up about the death. In fact, she thinks it was a good twist for network television.

“That was good for TV, because it’s too safe sometimes,” she says. As for what’s next, Henson teases, “The writers are so clever, and Jonah, Greg, what they do, I don’t doubt them. Yes, Carter will be missed, but they are really good.”

Part of what made Carter’s death so hard was the fact that she and Reese kissed not long before she was killed. Though the kiss was never scripted, Henson says the episode was asking for it.

“It worked because it was spontaneous. It wasn’t rehearsed it was just something that we did, and they caught it. They caught that moment,” she says, joking, “I think Jim [Caviezel] always wanted to kiss me.”

Henson adds, “Humans, we just need that interaction. We didn’t know if we were going to live or die or make it out of there or what, so that was just a really human moment right there.

“Person of Interest” airs Tuesdays on CBS at 10 p.m.
