taylor swift vogue feb 2012 Taylor Swift: Doesn't trust 'cool' kids; says she's 'stupid' in loveTaylor Swift is surprised that her fans want to curl their hair to emulate her long wavy locks.

“I look out at the stadiums full of people and see them all knowing the words to songs I wrote,” says Swift in a new Vogue interview. “And curling their hair! I remember straightening my hair because I wanted to be like everybody else, and now the fact that anybody would emulate what I do? It’s just funny. And wonderful.”

It’s doubly funny since the 22-year-old singer/songwriter went with straightened hair — and her new bangs — for her cover shot and for the magazine’s multi-page spread. But, as Vogue trumpets, Swift is embracing a “glamorous new look.” One that is apparently more Rodarte and runway than country cute.

Swift delves into the topic of self-image a bit more, talking about her awkward teenage years, when, she says, she just didn’t fit in.

“I think who you are in school really sticks with you,” she says. “I don’t ever feel like the cool kid at the party, ever. It’s like, Smile and be nice to everybody, because you were not invited to be here.”

She continues: “All of my favorite people–people I really trust–none of them were cool in their younger years. Because if you know how to be cool in middle school, maybe you have skills you shouldn’t. Maybe you know how to be conniving, like, naturally.”

Swift also talks about her string of heartbreaks — she’s famously dated John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner.

“I think I am smart unless I am really, really in love, and then I am ridiculously stupid,” she says, adding that her love life is currently on hold.

For what it’s worth, Taylor, stupid love is totally okay at 22.
