molly jason mesnick wedding rain 'The Bachelor' wedding: Jason Mesnick weds Molly MalaneyJason Mesnick and Molly Malaney are the first “Bachelor” couple to walk down the aisle.

The actual wedding was Saturday, Feb. 27, but the wedding aired Monday night (March 8) on ABC. It was a two-hour extravaganza that included a lot of familiar “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” faces.

First off, Trista and Ryan Sutter are still going strong and have two adorable children, good for them. Ed and Jillian seem to be doing alright and are also apparently headed towards their own trip down the aisle. Finally, DeAnna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano are dating — he is the twin brother of Michael Stagliano from Jillian’s season. Huh.

In the most hilarious update, Charlie and Sarah are back together and their talk about “I want to buy a house” and “Not until you put a ring on my finger” was hysterical. If we were “Bachelor” bettors, our money would be on Ed and Jillian before it’d be on Charlie and Sarah.

Nikki “Crazy Eyes” Kaapke and Stephanie “Daughter Tackler” Hogan were both in attendance at the ceremony as well. We had never before gotten more of a sense of the incestuous world of the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” shows. Yikes.

There was no shortage of Chris Harrison hyperbole — “One of the most anticipated weddings of all time.” — and he kept acting like the fact that it may or may not rain was earth-shattering. Doesn’t he listen to Alanis? It’s only “ironic.” It also wouldn’t surprise us if Molly was getting paid by the “spend the rest of my life with Jason” comments.

However, the ceremony was gorgeous. Jason Castro’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was beautiful and the threat of rain brought them an actual rainbow, which is magical (really, that’s awesome). You can check out a few extra wedding photos here. Molly’s strapless mermaid dress with the frouffy skirt (yep, that’s a word) was stunning.

It started raining during Molly’s vows and she and Jason barely batted an eye. It was quite romantic, actually. By the end of the ceremony, they were just soaked. Goodness. Jason Castro sang “That’s What I’m Here For” as they walked back down the aisle together.

Speaking of songs, Gavin DeGraw was there at the reception to perform “Follow Through.” That was cool. Chris Harrison sent us off with a “Jason and Molly weathered the storm” platitude. Oh, Chris Harrison.

Overall, it was a nice affair. Here’s our theory about the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” shows. Is every season going to find love? Of course not. Not even a majority of the seasons.

But we do think a majority of the seasons finds a couple who does have feelings for each other. Out of that group, some are going to work out and some aren’t. The show has gotten smarter by letting the couples see each other secretly during the time from when the finale tapes to when it airs. That certainly helps.

But two marriages out of 19 seasons? That’s not bad, actually, considering that people are thrown together into circumstances with heightened emotions that only last about six weeks. If Jason and Molly are willing to go through all this fuss, they probably really love each other and that’s great. Good for them.

Congratulations to the happy couple. We hope they have a blast on their South African safari honeymoon
