bahelorette-Chris-Harrison.jpg“The Bachelor” is coming back for its 15th season and ABC asked Brad Womack to give it another shot after he famously chose no one his first time around. Host Chris Harrison tells Zap2it why they chose Brad — actually, that Brad chose them.

“Oddly enough, it was the other way around,” Harrison laughs. “He had been kind of pursuing us and we were kinda ‘Eh, I don’t think it’d be a great idea,’ then late spring/early summer we started talking about this and the more we bantered it about, the more we thought this might be a great idea. A great way to break the chain of just having a favorite person from the previous season. He showed us he was different and really wanted to redeem himself.”

In a recent conference call, Womack told us that he “did find love” and is “very happy.” Harrison assures us that the viewers are going to be very happy too.

“It’s a great season and very much an old school ‘Bachelor,’ but in a way it’s completely different than any season we’ve ever had,” says Harrison. “In a way it’s old school because there’s really no huge controversy a la Rozlyn or Justin Rego. None of the crazy side-track stuff. But it’s completely different because you have a bachelor who isn’t exactly a hero. Our bachelors and bachelorettes are always kind of loved by the country and there’s a lot of animosity and skepticism built in with this guy. Everyone’s kind of like, ‘Alright dude, you better prove that you deserve this.'”

“You’re also going to find that the stories of a lot of these girls are very different,” he continues. “Whether it’s divorced moms or Emily, who lost her fiancee. There are stories that are unbelievably compelling and unlike anything we’ve dealt with on the show. You don’t have quote-unquote craziness, but you have storylines that will captivate our audience unlike any other.”

“The Bachelor” premieres Monday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
