TNT has enjoyed unprecedented success with its series The Closer, so now it’s looking to extend the franchise.
The network has given a script order to a possible spinoff of the show. Series creator James Duff and two of the show’s scribes are working on the concept, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What’s not clear is what the new series would be about. TNT is keeping quiet on the details, so it’s not known if the show, which is currently carrying the code name The Fixer, will star an existing character or a new one yet to be introduced.
Duff, Adam Belanoff and Michael Berchem — both of whom have written multiple Closer episodes — are working on the story. Duff and Belanoff will co-write the script and executive produce with Greer Shephard and Michael Robin.
The Closer has become the highest-rated series in the history of ad-supported cable and is still drawing big numbers in its fourth season. It’s averaging about 7 million viewers a week so far this summer.
The show has also earned star Kyra Sedgwick three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe win in 2007.
