With the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, cable news networks have gone into overdrive with their coverage, tossing out theories about what exactly may have happened to the jet. As Jon Stewart points out on Monday’s (March 24) episode of “The Daily Show,” some of the discussion has gotten simply ridiculous.
CNN in particular takes the brunt of Stewart’s chiding for trotting out toy airplanes, holograms and even comparisons to the TV show “Lost” during its coverage of the disappearance. Stewart also shows a clip where a CNN correspondent questions whether or not a psychic should be used to locate the plane. “Why don’t we use that octopus that always predicts the World Cup victor?” he jokes. “Why don’t we strap some wings to Wolf Blitzer and just let him loose? Because in order to catch a plane you must become a plane.”
What’s even funnier is Fox News’ report on CNN’s ratings during the coverage. Naturally, CNN covered Fox News’ coverage of their coverage. It’s a vicious cycle that never ends.
