President Obama apparently decided to jazz things up this week for his appearance at the APEC conference being held in Beijing. He arrived in a tailored plum jacket — which specifically caught the eye of “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart.
During his segment on the conference during Tuesday’s (Nov. 11) episode, Stewart took special pause to talk about the President’s choice in attire. After commenting that China went all out to make an economic conference an exciting event, Stewart says, “President Obama has been pretty bummed out about his political fortunes here at home. I don’t know if he’s going to be able to get into the spirit of — what the f*** is he wearing?”
Stewart takes a second to register the outfit he’s seeing on the screen and then continues, “He didn’t dress for a summit. He dressed for ‘The Hunger Games’.” Stewart then shows a side-by-side of President Obama and Donald Sutherland as President Snow from the popular movie series. The similarities in the outfits are definitely noteworthy, down to the exact coloring and fit of the suit.
“The Hunger Games” wasn’t the only pop culture reference President Obama drew out in the clip. Stewart goes on to commentary on President Obama’s avoiding Russian President Vladimir Putin to “Mean Girls.”
“It’s not like President Obama is throwing shade at Putin because Putin made out with Brandon when he knew that Obama likes Brandon,” he quips. Stewart goes on to say that President Obama may be warranted in giving Putin the stink eye given the political climate Russia has created by invading Ukraine.
President Obama and Putin’s exchange apparently was nothing compared to the frosty handshake between the leaders of China and Japan — two countries that have had a tense relationship for centuries.
