Matt Letscher on 'The Flash'

There’s another speedster coming to “The Flash” and this one looks familiar. Eobard Thawne is returning to the series, Entertainment Weekly reports. However, don’t expect to see Tom Cavanagh suiting up as Reverse-Flash again.

Matt Letscher, who portrays Eobard before he takes over Harrison Wells’ body, will reprise his role in episode 11 of Season 2, “The Reverse-Flash Returns.”

Executive producer Todd Helbing, who co-wrote the episode, says, “[Thawne’s] impossible return to Central City puts a member of the STAR Labs team in unexpected danger, forcing Barry to make a life-changing decision.”

How will the character be reintroduced, though? At the end of Season 1, Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) killed himself, ending the Thawne family line — on Earth One, at least. Luckily, Earth Two is definitely in play and it’s Thawne coming through the wormhole isn’t out of the questions.

Given how powerful a force the speedster from the future was in Season 1, it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out upon his return.

“The Flash” is back with brand new episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 19, on The CW.
