glee 414 i do recap emma wedding jayma mays fox The 'Glee' wedding: Did they say 'I Do'?

“Glee” didn’t give us the big, expected “I Do” wedding or anything, but there were plenty of shocks to make up for it. Shocks like breakups and hookups and kisses and…

Read about all of it in this recap.

Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) talk about relationship stuff in a coffee shop. Because these are totally the two people who should be figuring out everyone’s romance decisions. Shockingly, no conclusions are reached.

At least this sets up a later encounter in which the pair share a momentary bit of chemistry.

After that, Finn visits Emma (Jayma Mays) in her office. It’s very stressful — Emma is going full-on OCD (the school is going to sparkle by the time she walks down the aisle!). Still, Emma’s advice of “get over it” may be her best ever. And she didn’t even need a pamphlet!

We can guess that Emma doesn’t much need Will (Matthew Morrison) either, since his first act upon returning to the show and high school is to run off to the glee club and enlist them all to provide free entertainment at the nuptials.

In other messed-up romance news, Marley (Melissa Benoist) gives Jake (Jacob Artist) super-sweet, handmade cufflinks. Jake, meanwhile, hasn’t figured out anything yet. Obviously, the correct choice is singing. In history class — which is randomly taught by Will Schuster. Wait, didn’t he teach Spanish last time we saw the long-absent teacher?

Oh well. In this history class, there are red tuxedos and mood lighting during the singing of duets. So who cares?

Wedding Bells

Everyone is there, and everyone is wearing fur. Everyone, that is, except Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) who wears a replica of Emma’s dress  and makes pointed commentary about the show that will be ignored by everyone else (possibly including the writers of the rest of the dialogue).

Meanwhile, out in the chapel, Will starts up a show tune. That’s a mistake because it leads Emma to some “I’m not getting married” lyrics. She bolts, leaving Sue to walk down the aisle in a moment of evil triumph.

At least Emma has a gorgeous dress! Also, Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) made out in a car before the ceremony.

Party Time!

The wedding is out, but there’s still a party. While Will runs off to find Emma, everyone else goes to the reception. Santana (Naya Rivera) and Quinn (Dianna Agron) booze it up and flirt. Jake and Ryder (Blake Jenner) make Marley’s night special — all for Jake’s benefit and all with Ryder’s work. Artie (Kevin McHale) takes the abuse of wheelchair-bound Betty. Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) glares at Kurt and Blaine a lot and then yells at Kurt.

Bouquets and Sexy Times

We’re basically just pretending that the wedding happened now, so Sue tosses the bouquet. And of course Rachel catches it.

Strangely, this leads to a touching scene between a petal-picking, slightly drunk Finn and Rachel. He’s still totally in love with the girl and she doesn’t exactly pull back. Reunion? Whether that’s where we’re headed or not, that may just be Cory Monteith’s best “Glee” scene ever.

Then they sing together and make eyes and stuff.

Obviously, Will and Emma should have listened to this song. By the end of it, all possible couples head for hotel rooms. That would be:

Rachel and Finn
Kurt and Blaine
Marley and Jake
Artie and Betty
Santana and Quinn (yes, they went there)

The Cold Light of Day

  • Two days have passed, and Rachel is back in New York. Brody has decorated. They both lie about what they did while apart.
  • Kurt and Blaine (just friends!) reassure Tina about being a hag.
  • Marley thanks Ryder for the Valentine’s stuff. He kisses her.
  • Finn yells at a moping Mr. Schu. He also steals coffee.
  • Artie gets a second date with the mean wheelchair girl.
  • Everybody sings and dances in a wild romp across the stage, indicating that happy days are ahead.

Alone in her New York apartment, Rachel waits impatiently for the results of what looks like a pregnancy test. That would, of course, mean Finn’s the father.

Oh, and no one has seen Emma yet. So “Glee” will have to get back to the wedding thing later rather than sooner.
