In case you haven’t heard, the Supreme Court of the United States is hearing some potentially landmark arguments Tuesday (March 26) and Wednesday (March 27).

First, they’ll hear the arguments for and against Prop 8, the California ban on gay marriage, then the nine justices will hear arguments in regards to the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies certain rights to gay couples that straight couples are afforded.

But this debate isn’t something that has only cropped up recently. Check out this clip from the 1991 “Golden Girls” episode titled “Sister of the Bride,” which saw Blanche’s (Rue McClanahan) gay brother Clayton come to town to tell Blanche about his commitment ceremony. Leave it to Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) to explain to Blanche why.

The episode was co-written by “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry.
