Michael J. Fox returns in his own weekly series soon, but he’d welcome continuing to have a “Good” time elsewhere on television.

Emmy-nominated for the third consecutive year for his recurring role as crafty attorney Louis Canning on CBS’ “The Good Wife,” the home-screen veteran says he’d be happy to reprise the part during Season 5 of the drama after he launches NBC’s “The Michael J. Fox Show” Thursday, Sept. 26.

“I’m open to it,” he tells Zap2it during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “I have the allowance to do it, if the schedule and the scripts permit, and I’d love to do it. I enjoy that show so much; I enjoy working with Julianna [Margulies] and everybody else there. It’s an amazing experience.”

As he prepares to start his new sitcom role as Mike Henry, a New York family man and television newscaster who also has Parkinson’s disease, Fox — who already has three Emmys for “Family Ties,” another for “Spin City” and a fifth for his guest work on “Rescue Me” — remains grateful “The Good Wife’s” Canning is what he terms “the gift that keeps on giving.”

Reflecting on how many notable guest stars the law drama has featured, Fox says, “I don’t know if I opened the gate or if I was one of the first ones in, but it deserves to get performers who really care about what they do. Those writers really care about what they do, so it’s only fair.”
