Scottish actor-comedian Billy Connolly has been cast in “The Hobbit.” He’ll be playing dwarf warrior Dain Ironfoot, who is Thorin Oakenshield’s cousin. Director Peter Jackson said in a statement, “We could not think of a more fitting actor to play
Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy
Connelly, the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role, the
cast of “The Hobbit” is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the Battlefield!”
If you’d like to geek out for a moment, here is the info on Dain. He’s one of the Dwarves greatest warriors. He’s the son of Nain, the grandson of Gror, the youngest son of Dain I if Durin’s folk. Following his grandfather’s death, Dain was created lord of the Dwarves of Iron Hills. After the death of Thorin Oakenshield, he succeeded Thorin as King Under the Mountain.
