Hugoweaving_lordoftherings_290 The Lord of Rivendell is back.

Hugo Weaving, who played hybrid elf Elrond in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will reprise the role in "The Hobbit" films, according to a BBC interview.

Around the 2:10:55 mark, director Guillermo del Toro confirms the casting, which means a Tolkien reunion with Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen, Gollum and Gandalf, respectively.

Although the time in "The Hobbit" precedes the "Rings" trilogy by about 60 years (a gap that the follow up to "The Hobbit" will cover), many of these Middle-earth denizens are rather long-lived or even immortal.

The two films are scheduled for a 2011 and 2012 release.

Weaving, 49, is also known for his roles in "The Matrix" films, "V for Vendetta" and being cast in the upcoming thriller "The Wolf Man" opposite Benicio del Toro.
