It’s been rumored for a while, but on Monday (July 23) Lionsgate officially announced that Jena Malone will play Johanna Mason in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
Mason is a female victor of one of the past Hunger Games who comes back to compete in the Quarter Quell — the 75th anniversary version of the games which brings back previous victors to compete again. Mason, in her early 20s, is one of the youngest competitors Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) will face in the arena.
Malone joins previously announced new cast members Amanda Plummer (Wiress) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee). “Snow White and the Huntsman” actor Sam Claflin is rumored to be the frontrunner to play another tribute, Finnick O’Dair, and “Monk’s” Tony Shalhoub is rumored to be circling the role of Beeteel, an inventor who used electricity to help him win the games in the past.
