Nickelodeon has decided “The Legend of Korra” will get to air its final episodes on TV.
The network originally moved the series to online only this summer but its sister network Nicktoons will carry the last few episodes of “Korra” beginning Friday (Nov. 28). The announcement was made via Facebook with a trailer for the upcoming episode. Nicktoons will air new episodes each Friday leading up to the series finale in December.
According to the statement the episodes will also premiere online at Nick.com.
The fan reaction has been mixed about the announcement by the look of the Facebook comments. Overall majority of “The Legend of Korra” viewers seem to be frustrated with how back and forth the network has been with the show. They wish more money had been spent to market the show in the first place rather than on moving it around to different platforms.
Still, the move to online was a relief to some who found it difficult to catch the show as it aired each week. Moving online felt more convenient — but Nickelodeon placing the show online after it airs as many networks now do could have satisfied both parties. At the very least fans will get the best of both worlds for the final episodes of Book 4.
Unfortunately, creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino have said that when “Korra” ends it will probably be the end of “Avatar” projects. While they are open to the idea of one-offs in the future, they have no plans to create another long running “Avatar” series.
Hopefully, Nickelodeon bringing the show back to TV for its final episode will feel like a proper send off for fans that have stuck with the show through all of its changes.
“The Legend of Korra” Book 4, episode 9 premieres on Nicktoons on Nov. 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
