For fans of Frances Hodgson Burnett‘s celebrated novel “The Making of a Lady,” Sunday (Feb. 9) is going to be a special night.

PBS will premiere bring the British TV film adaptation of the novel stateside at 10 p.m. ET/PT, following a brand-new episode of “Downton Abbey.” Originally broadcast on ITV in the UK, “The Making of a Lady” tells the story of educated but penniless Emily Fox Seaton (Lydia Wilson).

During her duties as a lady’s companion for Lady Maria (Joanna Lumley), she meets her employer’s wealthy widower nephew, Lord James Walderhurst (Linus Roache). After accepting his practical, if unromantic marriage proposal, Emily finds solace in the company of Walderhurst’s nephew and his wife once her new husband leaves to rejoin his regiment. As she grows increasingly contented, she has no idea that her life is actually in danger.

“The Making of a Lady” premieres Sunday, Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on PBS.
