debbie allen cw fame The next 'Fame'? CW developing performing arts drama from Debbie Allen

Though a remake of the iconic film and TV series “Fame” already hit theaters in 2009 and the small screen in 2003, a new version of the old idea might be making its way to The CW in the near future.

The CW is developing an hour-long drama from Debbie Allen set at a Los Angeles performing arts school, Variety reports.

The as-yet-untitled project just landed a script deal at the network. Allen — best known for her role in the 1980 film and the following ’80s TV series — will executive produce with Matt Witten (“House”) and former William Morris TV chief Sam Haskell.

Including starring in the original film and series, Allen served as an EP on the 2003 rebooted TV series, and owns a notable dance studio in LA, so she is definitely the right person for the job. But just to clarify, this isn’t another reboot of “Fame” despite having an almost identical setting.

Does the world need another performing arts drama or has the idea been done too many times — especially with Allen at the helm? Hit the comments with your thoughts and opinions.
