Call it denial or call it professional courtesy, but NBC has been intentionally tight-lipped about Steve Carell’s “I’m leaving ‘The Office’” publicity tour.

The network finally opened up about the matter and not a moment too soon — he’s practically loading his things into a truck.

The AP reports that NBC Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad made the network’s first comment. “We’ve been lucky to have had him as long as we’ve had,” she says. “These things happen when you have such a major movie star in a show.”

She was quick to change the subject to the network’s commitment to the series’ future. “Not to diminish the departure of Steve, because that will impact the
show, but we have tremendous faith in the writers and actors to keep it

Carell continues to help spread the word on his own, too. In an appearance on “The Late Late Show,” he opened up to Craig Ferguson about his decision, saying it was to spend more time with his family. And also make lots and lots of movies.
