toby the office nbc 'The Office': New showrunner, Mindy Kaling's casting, and no more Dwight?“The Office” may soon have some more vacancies, with NBC reportedly looking for another showrunner, Rainn Wilson starring in the show’s spinoff, and Mindy Kaling working on her own pilot, which recently picked up some new stars.

EW reports that NBC is actively looking for a new showrunner for next season to replace chief writer-producer Paul Lieberstein, who also plays Toby Flenderson.

Lieberstein is reportedly looking to focus the show’s spinoff, starring Wilson’s Dwight returning home to run his family’s beet farm (which could also mean little-to-no Dwight on “The Office”).

Another “Office” star that may soon be taking a leave of absence is Kaling, since she’ll potentially be leaving for her own FOX comedy if the pilot gets picked up. Richard Schiff (“The West Wing”) has signed on to Kaling’s pilot, as “a menschy but accomplished OBGYN” who “is terrible with technology and tells stories about the 60s and 70s,” reports Vulture. EW reports that “Office” mate, Ed Helms, will be guest-starring on the show as a potential love interest, as will “Saturday Night Live” veteran Bill Hader as Kaling’s character’s ex.

Meanwhile, TV Guide reports that Helms and John Krasinski are closer to signing deals for next season of “The Office.”

“Everyone’s coming into the final yard line,” a source says.

Could be a very different “Office” next season …
