The family he spawned has long since had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But on Tuesday (Feb. 14), “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening earned his spot on the fabled sidewalk of immortality.

Groening, who launched “The Simpsons” in 1987 as a series of animated shorts on “The Tracey Ullman Show,” now readies for the series to air its 500th episode on Sunday (Feb. 19). The program has since earned 27 prime time Emmys and made billions for FOX.

The name on the 2,459 star has done a decent amount of work outside “The Simpsons” as well. He’s the creator of the animated series “Futurama” and is also the animator and writer of the long-running comic strip “Life in Hell.”

Groening celebrated the occasion with a number of voices from “The Simpsons” including Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith.
