vocal rush the sing off season 4 'The Sing Off': Meet the impressive high schoolers of Vocal Rush Two years after the last season of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” aired — and following the success of the movie “Pitch Perfect” and Internet phenomenon Pentatonix, who won Season 3 — a cappella singing is en vogue again. Zap2it spoke with each of the groups competing in Season 4 of the reality competition. Up next: Vocal Rush, a group of insanely talented high school students.

You’ll probably feel extremely unaccomplished when you find out that the members of Vocal Rush, one of the highlights of the premiere of “The Sing-Off” Season 4, are all high school students.

“The group started in March of 2011 as an after school program that our director started, and after doing it for so long and constantly singing and performing, it became part of the curriculum” at Oakland School for the Arts, explains group member Sarah Vela.

If that weren’t enough, they’ll also make you feel extremely uncool when they tell you they sing covers by plenty of artists that you’ve never even heard of. “We do a lot of soulful pop and some underground artists, things like that,” says Kyana Fanene. “We’ve done songs by Delta Rae and Nneka, but we also do songs by more mainstream artists like Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga, Joss Stone.”

“The Sing-Off” has been a great learning experience for the group, says Jordan Holly. “There’s been a lot of great moments. At school we have our own way of doing things with practice, rehearsal, shows, but here we have group numbers where we work with every group and I think that’s cool. It’s collaborating with everyone, getting to know people, and also working with people in the business.”
