voice final blake 'The Voice' battles: Nicolle Galyon vs. Mathai and Karla Davis vs. Orlando Napier“The Voice” finally aired its last Battle Rounds episode of the season, meaning that the live shows begin next Monday, April 2, with elimination shows following them on Tuesdays. This week, the coaches finalized their teams.

Adam Levine had two teams left to battle. He paired Nicolle Galyon with Mathai for Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song.” Robin Thicke was Nicolle’s celebrity mentor, and her general adorableness won him over in a big way — he practically wanted to take her to the prom! He suggests that she focus on how “sweet” the song is.

That means that Mathai’s celeb mentor was Alanis Morissette, who warns her to be herself and not to get ahead of the notes, giving each one time to play out.

Though Adam didn’t particularly seem to love the battle, he and all the fellow coaches agreed that Mathai won out — because of her breathing techniques, according to Blake.

Later, he set Karla Davis against Orlando Napier. Initially, he picked “Rich Girl” by Hall & Oates — which, surprisingly, Orlando had never heard. In the end, his unfamiliarity with the song didn’t matter — Adam didn’t like the way it sounded and switched it up, asking them to sing “Easy Like Sunday Morning” instead.

Despite coaching from Alanis and Robin — who tells Orlando to focus on his vowels — the performance ultimately fell flat for the coaches. (Maybe they’re just sick of sitting there for hours listening to battles?

“I don’t think anybody really ran away with that particular battle,” Blake says. “I really love the sound of Karla’s voice, but overall performance, I think Orlando probably did a better job.” Christina called it “lackluster,” but found Karla “a little more entertaining.”

Cee-Lo dug Orlando’s “blue eyed soul” and chose him. Adam said that what Orlando does is “specific” and “special,” but that Karla has “started to blossom.” He ultimately chooses Karla.

Did Mathai and Karla deserve to win? Watch the performances again below and let us know.
