the voice james massone 'The Voice': Meet James Massone, Boston mechanic turned Team Cee Lo starTalk about a life-changing opportunity. On Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” 23-year-old James Massone put on his old varsity jacket and performed “Find Your Love” for the judges. Massone, a mechanic from Boston, wasn’t interested in going back to work on cars. “I don’t really want to go back to the shop. This is my dream. This is what I want to do, hopefully forever,” he says.

He told a story of a heartbreaking near-miss where four of his friends were gunned down in 2005 after a fight broke out in a recording studio.  “A kid decided to take out any witnesses, so he left no one alive,” he says. James’ brother was supposed to be in that studio, but thankfully, wasn’t. Still, the tragedy inspired him to pursue music.

“This was their dream, this is my dream, I want to carry it on,” he says. “I didn’t sleep last night. My stomach had the biggest butterflies. I don’t want to be breathing in the dust anymore.”

Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Cee-Lo turned their chairs around as James broke down crying after his performance. “You waited til the end to fall apart, and that’s the hardest thing to do,” Shelton says.

“This is why I love this show… I didn’t know what I was going to find behind my chair,” Christina said.

“He’s white!” Adam Levine said, admitting that he didn’t turn around because he didn’t “want to deal” with fighting with his fellow coaches. “I just want to watch.”

In the end, Cee-Lo won the prize. “I don’t want to offend anyone in the group because you guys are all awesome. I’m overwhelmed that you guys turned your chairs, I didn’t think that was going to happen. I gotta go with my first choice, I gotta go with Cee-Lo,” James said.
