the voice fall 2012 nbc 'The Voice': Two editions happening next seasonNBC will double up on “The Voice” next season, launching a fall cycle in addition to the midseason edition it’s done the past two years.

The show has been NBC’s best ratings performer (outside of “Sunday Night Football”) the past two seasons, and network head Bob Greenblatt says he’s comfortable expanding the show now.

“We were cautious about doing that too quickly, which is why we took two full seasons to do the first two cycles,” Greenblatt tells Zap2it. “We learned more and more about how the show works and expanded the number of hours. We feel pretty comfortable that we have the format under control, although we’ll make some further adjustments to make it even better in the fall. And most successful, long-running reality franchises do two installments [per season].”

That’s long been true for competition shows like “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” but outside of “Dancing With the Stars” talent shows have tended to stick to one run per season. Greenblatt jokes that’s changing as well.

“The one sacrosanct one was always ‘American Idol,’ but now even that has two cycles, because [FOX has] ‘X Factor’ in the fall and ‘Idol’ in the spring,” he says.

“The Voice” will air at 8 p.m. ET Mondays and Tuesdays in the fall and likely keep that pattern in the spring as well.
